Kata kunci: hadith, misoginis, feminisme, wanita, haiwan Abstract In line with the current development of socialization, the challenge of Islamic sources has also evolved from different angles. Particularly on women-related issues, there are several hadiths which are considered to degrade women's dignity and restrict the rights of women as have been argued and debated by anti-hadith groups, feminists and orientalists. The manifestation of gender inequality further resulted in the spread of hadiths that have been labelled as misogyny or anti-women which have been misinterpreted. This study focuses on the authentic hadiths that have been said to consider women have similar status with animal such as dog and donkey. Explanation of this debate will highlight on the matn (text) of the hadith, the meaning of the word, the law issued from the hadith, and the commentary of the scholars' as a justification towards the misunderstanding of the selected hadith. Keywords: hadith, misogyny, feminism, women, animal
