Title: A critical analysis on Shariah Compliance in Information System of Islamic Banking: Evedance from Malaysian Islamic Banking

Abstract: Information system had become a crucial element in any business and organizations. Conventional banking has fully utilized information system in their banking system. Embedded information system into a banking system was to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of banking operation. Over thirty decades of Islamic banking development, information system of Islamic bank. However, information system use in conventional banking and Islamic banking was carries same framework and protocol. Shariah compliant is one of the main objective of Islamic bank. The existence of shariah compliance in every process and operation of Islamic bank is to assure the shareholder and stakeholder that Islamic bank operates according to shariah principles. However, lack of the literature discusses the important of shariah compliance in information system. Most of the literature discuss the important of information system could enhance Islamic bank compliance to the shariah by integrating element of shariah compliant into information system. The objective of this study was to investigate the needs of of shariah compliant element in information system. This study investigated the challenges and factors to implement shariah compliant information system in Islamic banking in Malaysia. In this exploratory study, the primary data were collected through questionnaires with a sample size of Islamic bank's employees in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The data collected were analyzed through multiple analysis techniques. The result showed that the main challenges to implement shariah compliant information system are the complexity of the product and the absence of standardization. The result of the factor analysis has identified three factors that explained 74.54 percent of the total variance and these were "confidence and satisfaction", "performance" and "convenience" factors. Meanwhile composite score analysis showed that convenience is the main factor influencing the implementation of shariah compliance information system in Islamic banking. Based on the findings, integration of shariah compliant information system in Islamic banking. Based on the findings, integration of shariah compliant information system in Islamic banking. Based on findings, integration of shariah compliant information system is not suitable for Islamic banking in Malaysia as Malaysia using dual banking system. Modified information system is more suitable rather than develop new system. This study may contribute to the Islamic banks regarding the readiness of Islamic banking to implementing shariah compliant information system and provide new knowledge and current information about shariah compliant information system.
